Man City boss Pep Guardiola is Coach of the Century

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been lauded for his excellent work at Manchester City, Barcelona and Bayern Munich and has been named as the best Coach of the Century for 2001-2020.

The Cityzens manager has been recognised for the prestigious award, presented by Globe Soccer, for his exemplary track record at Barcelona B, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City.

Josep Guardiola – or Pep, as he is popularly known as – had his first coaching stint in 2007, and ended up as the first team coach at Barcelona in 2008. After four hugely successful years at the Nou Camp, the Catalan spent a year out in New York before joining Bayern.

A deluge of trophies soon followed, with the exception of victories eluding him in the Champions League since his Barcelona days, and Guardiola’s three-year spell in Germany ended in 2016 when he left to take over at Manchester City.

After his arrival at the Etihad, Guardiola has amassed no less than eight trophies, including two Premier Leagues, and three League cups. The two league titles saw City become the first team to record back-to-back titles in ten years, recording the two highest points totals until that point in the process.

Now, he has been awarded the Coach of the Century award, beating off stiff competition from luminaries like Sir Alex Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Zinedine Zidane.

Guardiola’s latest award has been described by Globe Soccer as the ‘crowning achievement of his career’, with the Spaniard garnering 34 per cent of the public vote, with Zidane closely behind on 30 per cent. Sir Alex Ferguson won 27 per cent of votes, with current Tottenham boss Mourinho firmly fourth on 8 per cent.

Guardiola has won 29 trophies over his illustrious career, from the Community Shield to the Champions League and Club World Cup. In 664 matches, Guardiola is nine wins short of the 500 mark, with two more goals needed to pass 1700 under his management.

With a win rate of 73.9 per cent, and a trophy every 22 games, it’s not hard to see why he has been recognised with this latest award.
