Nani, Wes Brown inspire young footballers in Malaysia

Adidas continued its mission to empower the next generation of footballers at Back To The Roots: With Nani & Brown — an exclusive football clinic hosted in collaboration with global partner Manchester United.

Held at Sayfol International School, the initiative brought together 40 young talents aged 13–17, selected through the nationwide grassroots programme, Liga Suparimau.

The youth players, chosen for their outstanding passion and potential, were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime training session led by Michael Neary, Head of Manchester United Soccer Schools, alongside Manchester United Legends, Luis Nani and Wes Brown, alongside local adidas athletes — creating a powerful blend of global excellence and homegrown inspiration.

The session reflected adidas’ ongoing commitment to make football more inclusive and accessible, and to create meaningful pathways for young athletes to grow.

Through the brand’s extensive network of partners, including Manchester United and Malaysia’s own football talents, adidas Malaysia continues to uplift aspiring players with opportunities to learn, grow, and believe in their own potential.

On the pitch, participants received expert coaching designed to mirror the intensity and ethos of professional football.

Michael Neary, Head of Manchester United Soccer Schools, designed a training menu that included passing drills, head tennis, and concluded with an 11-a-side mini game.

“Mentorship is a vital part of any athlete’s journey, and having these young footballers train with Manchester United legends is an invaluable opportunity.

Not only will they learn technical skills and game strategies, but they will also gain insights into what it takes to be resilient, disciplined, and committed to the sport they love,” said Fanny Lanctot, adidas Southeast Asia Senior Brand Director.

This initiative is part of adidas’ wider ambition to help level the playing field, championing equity in sport and celebrating the power of football to bring communities together.

By creating access to elite-level experiences and leveraging the influence of both global icons and local changemakers, adidas aims to inspire young athletes to stay in the game — and to dream big.
