Pep Guardiola insists Liverpool can still win the Premier League despite Jurgen Klopp conceding in title race

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has dismissed Jurgen Klopp’s claim that Liverpool can no longer hope to defend their Premier League title after the Reds suffered a third successive league defeat on Saturday, after they squandered a 1-0 lead with a late capitulation that saw them go down 3-1 against Leicester at the King Power.

The defeat prompted Klopp to concede the title, even before league leaders City beat Tottenham 3-0 to extend the gap between the two to 13 points, with the Spaniard’s side having played a game less.

Leicester’s win means Brendan Rodger’s side are within seven points of the summit, while Manchester United can close the gap to five points by beating West Brom on Sunday.

However, Guardiola insists Liverpool are still in the hunt, too.

“From what I saw from the way they played against Leicester, we would have to lose games, but of course they can do it,” the Spaniard said.

“It is the same Liverpool that I met in the last years. In the boxes they are not as clinical as before but the quality of their play is still there.”
