World Cup 2022 winner Lionel Messi has reportedly verbally agreed to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Argentine superstar had penned a massively lucrative two-year deal when he joined the club last year and PSG have been keen to tie down Messi’s future as his contract is set to expire next summer.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reports that Messi has verbally agreed to extend his contract, according to The Sun. Both the player and the club will be meeting up again soon to discuss details like the length of the deal and salary.
Messi’s future had been rife with speculation, understandably, with reports suggesting he was ready to quit PSG and perhaps sign with David Beckham’s Inter Miami in the MLS. Barcelona had also been heavily linked with keen interest to re-sign the former Blaugranas star.
However football’s transfer gospel according to Romano Messi alleges that the Argentine superstar’s camp never entered talks with Barca and a proposed move had invariably collapsed even before entering an advanced stage.
Be that as it may, the Spanish giants are still obdurately cherishing ardent hopes of reuniting with the World Cup winner and will try to compete with the terms offered by PSG, report Mundo Deportivo. Which would be an inconceivable move considering that Barca are nowhere in the league of the Parisian giants in terms of funding.
As such, the best that the likes of Joan Laporta can do is dream and drool. Besides it has been frequently reported that Messi has been constant in avoiding the Barcelona president and his agents’ constant calls since early last season.
