Mo Salah to return to Liverpool early from international duty to rest for Egypt’s friendly against Liberia

Liverpool who have been undegoing a rough patch in the Premier League have been handed a major boost with talisman Mo Salah to be rested for Egypt’s friendly against Liberia on Tuesday.

This means the forward will return to Liverpool ahead of the resumption of the Premier League season, national team coach Rui Vitoria said on Sunday.

The 30-year-old was twice on target in Friday’s 3-0 friendly win over Niger but has been left out of the squad for Tuesday’s game in Alexandria alongside forward Mostafa Mohamed and defender Ahmed Fatouh as it has been agreed that Salah will be released from the squad early to regroup with Liverpool and focus on the club’s preparations to prepare for the on-coming league matches.

Egypt failed to qualify for this year’s World Cup in Qatar when they lost in a play-off to African champions Senegal.

The Reds have had a poor start to the season and currently sit eighth in the Premier League table with two wins and nine points from six games so far.

Salah, too, has been wide off the mark and has scored just three goals in eight games in total for Jurgen Klopp’s side so far this season, in vast comparison to the heights he hit last year, when he scored 31 goals in all competitions.

He signed a new contract at the club over the summer amid speculation around his future.

The forward will be looking to add to his tally of two league goals this season when Liverpool host Brighton on Saturday.
