Paul Pogba ‘open’ to Man Utd stay after making transfer U-turn

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has just over 12 months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford, with speculation rife about his future, and the World Cup winner is reportedly open to ending speculation about his future at Old Trafford and is willing to discuss a new contract with the club.

The Frenchman’s contract situation has been making the headlines ever since a 12-month extension was triggered by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year which means he will be tied to the club until the end of next season, where he could then be available on a free transfer.

Pogba had earlier caused abit of a stir insinuating he could be trying to force an exit when he admitted it would be a “dream” to join Spanish champions Real Madrid, with his controversial agent Mino Raiola then following up on those claims soon thereafter, suggesting his Old Trafford career was over as he was not happy at Old Trafford and he would push for a move at some point in 2021.

The French midfielder’s presence in the United midfield has been amplified in recent weeks, as the 27-year-old, who had struggled for minutes at the start of the season, enjoyed an uplifting revival in form over the festive period, stringing together a number of impressive performances.

Raiola himself then appeared to have softened his stance, claiming he never had any intention of destabilising his client’s season with the Red Devils.

“I just expressed an opinion, I didn’t want to cause any problem,” Raiola told BBC Sport last month.

“I don’t think that it destabilised anybody, because they had a fantastic run and they were even first, for a period, in the league.”

And now, Pogba is reportedly ‘open’ to extending his stay and is willing to start talks over a potential new deal, with the update coming just weeks after Solskjaer admitted there had been an open dialogue between club and player, with a decision on his future needing to be made in the coming months.

The United manager said:

“We’ve got a good open dialogue with Paul so what we talk about and how we see that situation remains between us.

“Our conversations remain private, of course. But for example, Paul is a Manchester United player through and through.

“He’s been here in two spells. He came as a kid, he’s learnt about the history of the club, the passion of the club. He wants to do the best for United when he’s here and I think we’ve seen that.”
