Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has unsurprisingly kickstarted the second part of his sizzling performance this season and is back in his phenomenal goalscoring form that he’s now hit the back of the net more times this season than the entire team of one of City’s title rivals.
As an indicator of his goal-scoring prowess, Haaland has scored more Premier League goals this season than Chelsea’s entire team.
The back-with-a-vengeance, prolific goalscoring Norwegian just casually picked up from where he left off right before the Qatar World Cup break by conveniently bagging a brace as Manchester City sauntered past Leeds at Elland Road last night, bringing his tally to 20 league goals after just 14 appearances.
Chelsea had earlier indicated their ambitions of winning the title and have bagged 19 goals so far, with top scorer Kai Havertz registering a measly four league goals so far.
Haaland’s scary form and ravenous appetite for goals seem to be a total antithesis to Chelsea’s dismal struggles in the goalmouth which have been the main conundrum since Diego Costa’s departure in 2017.
In their desperate attempts to fill the vacuum left behind by Costa, the Blues have since brought in a whole succession of high-profile strikers, specifically Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain, Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku, but to no avail.
Mason Mount ended up as the club’s leading Premier League scorer last season with 11 goals, exceeding Jorginho’s seven-goal haul the previous season.
To their credit the London club did attempt to sign Haaland in 2021, ended up with mud on their faces and subsequently attempted to remedy the problem by sealing a summer move for RB Leipzig hotshot Christopher Nkunku, and they could well bring in a striker in the January transfer window too following Armando Broja’s season-ending ACL injury.
In the meantime, City boss Pep Guardiola says he has no expectations of bringing in any players next month even though the club are trying to close the gap on Arsenal, who are five points clear at the top of the league at the moment.
