Chelsea ended their pre-season tour of the United States with a draw against Borussia Dortmund and will be heading into the upcoming first Premier League match unbeaten against Liverpool.
Despite the injury sustained by Christopher Nkunku and 25-year-old Levi Colwill being forced to withdraw after a knee issue, manager Mauricio Pochettino played what could most likely be his team to face Liverpool on the opening day of the Premier League season.
The Argentinian will have been pleased with the overall performance by the Blues’ performance with Marius Wolf and Chelsea academy striker Mason Burstow bagging the goals in the 1-1 draw in Chicago.
The France international came off the pitch with an injury sustained in the 22nd minute and was immediately attended to with Chelsea’s physiotherapists immediately attaching an ice pack to his knee after a stellar spell on the left wing. The Blues clearly felt his absence and suffered a dip following his withdrawal, which highlights his importance in the team as he has already scored three goals in 268 minutes across pre-season.
The 20-year-old England Under-21 defender played with huge confidence in Chicago, with a sensational display which prominently displayed his front-footed defending, wonderful positioning and creative passing. He signed a six-year contract with the Blues with an option for a further season.
He will now almost certainly start against Liverpool after striking up a good partnership with Thiago Silva.
