Jurgen Klopp’s position as Liverpool manager seems to be under heavy scrutiny by supporters after his team threw away all three points slipping two goals behind against Brighton.
‘Jurgen Klopp is getting sacked’ was close to trending on Twitter after his Liverpool side began by slipping 2-0 behind against a defiant Brighton at Anfield on Saturday before finally capitulating and throwing away all three points.
The usually facile German boss is seemingly undergoing some awkward teething problems to the new season with his side sitting as low as tenth in the table after Leandro Trossard’s first-half brace in Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge had paved the way for their continued displacement.
Roberto Firmino’s timely brace and an own goal by Adam Webster had momentarily given the hosts the lead but the completion of his hat-trick by Trossard leveled the playing field, enabling social media to take aim at the rickety Liverpool performance as questions were hurled at their manager.
One fan wrote: “Jurgen klopp will soon be sacked if things continue this way.”
A second added: “Is Jurgen Klopp trying to see how far he can go without getting sacked?”
And a third continued: “Do you think Jurgen Klopp will not be sacked any moment from now?”
A rival supporter chipped in: “If Klopp is not sacked after this Brighton game then Liverpool should forget top 6.”
Another quipped: “If Liverpool drops points in this game Jurgen Klopp should be sacked.”
It was Jordan Henderson who gave the ball away allowing for Trossard’s opening goal, whilst his second came after Solly March found him inside the box with an obviously delighted De Zerbi on the touchline.
After Roberto Firmino’s first goal had been initially ruled out, VAR showed that Mohamed Salah was in fact onside. The Brazil international slotted home again after 54 minutes before the visitors’ Robert Sanchez gifted them another with his fumbled clearance richochetting off Webster.
Throughout the match, social media users were sceptical as they provided a running commentary, even when Liverpool took the lead, with barbs like: “Seven years, Six major trophies Jurgen Klopp’s time at Liverpool coming to an end….!? Yes I said it.”
“Is Jurgen Klopp confused? Can’t believe Liverpool are playing like this.”
“Jurgen klopp gonna get sacked any day now.”
“Klopp has to get sacked soon.”
It would be interesting to see how the usually imperturbable Liverpool gaffer bounces back from this series of setbacks that have been totally unexpected.
