Chelsea, despite having a slow start to this summer’s transfer window in terms of incomings, are definitely looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The European Champions have thus far only signed goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli and, with the Englishman only coming in as third choice, he’s hardly the marquee signing Chelsea fans have been craving.
However, knowing fully well from the past that one would be imprudent and foolhardy to discredit the Blues in the summer transfer market, also bearing in mind their considerable spending power and pugnacious determination of their Russian billionaire owner Roman Abramovich, the ever-resourceful Marina Granovskaia will surely have a trick or two up her sleeve to pull off some truly remarkable deals.
New coach with what could be a possible ‘Midas touch’, Thomas Tuchel, has already clearly identified a few positions of weakness, particularly up front, an area he’s likely to strengthen with someone of the highest quality.
The German tactician’s first choice in that position is his top summer transfer target with Chelsea ramping up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. Nevertheless, signing the 21-year-old superstar is proving to be a task much easier said than done as and there’s still a long way to go with that saga.
Norwegian sensation Haaland netted 41 goals in as many games for Borussia Dortmund last season in all competitions, meaning there are plenty of clubs interested in his services this summer.
However football.london has the understanding that the 21-year-old is the west London outfit’s number one target before the transfer window slams shut at the end of next month. Any deal is likely to cost more than £150million and signing him for that money will be a big surprise.
Tuchel is also reportedly keen on bringing Aston Villa captain and England star, Jack Grealish, to Stamford Bridge this summer and is ready to hijack Manchester City’s £100million move for the 25-year-old.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Grealish is seen as another ideal man to take Chelsea forward and the Blues will try their best to throw a wrench into the works to meddle with City’s deal.
Speaking about him before Chelsea’s clash with Villa on the final day of the 2020/21 Premier League season, Tuchel told Sky Sports:
“Look at the statistics! Aston Villa with and without him are different teams.
“He is involved in almost every offensive situation. He is very good at decision-making.
“He has a lot of composure in assisting, finishing and bringing people around him in top situations, dangerous situations to be able to score.”
The German is obviously a huge admirer of Grealish, so if Chelsea can beat City to his signature, we can expect to see a lot of him in a different shade of blue.
