Barcelona heavyweights meet with Laporta following Atletico draw

El Chiringuito report that some of the big guns in the Blaugrana squad met up with club president Joan Laporta to discuss matters regarding the club’s sporting project right on the heel of Barcelona’s stalemate against Atletico Madrid in one of the most crucial La Liga games of the season.

The Catalans’ goalless draw at the Camp Nou – yet another repeat of coach Ronald Koeman’s ability to muster wins in the big decisive games – further dented their aspirations of a 27th La Liga title. The fairly lackluster performance means they now have no choice but to try and win their games while hoping that their rivals Atletico and Real Madrid drop points in the final three games of the season.

The result was decidedly a disappointing one for the Blaugrana as having endured a rocky start to the season, they labored tremendously hard to claw their way back into the title race with Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, but have somehow been losing crunch games when it mattered most. After again throwing away their chances of topping the table, Barcelona now can only wait and watch.

The limp draw was allegedly followed by unease and speculation within the Barcelona team, as some of the dressing room heavyweights – including Gerard Pique, Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba – all gathered together for an internal with president Laporta in a meeting to discuss the future of the club’s sporting project.

The media outlet reports that Ronald Koeman was conspicuously not present, fanning the sparks that there are still doubts about his continuity at Barcelona as head coach next season. The program also allegedly discussed the possibility of Xavi’s return, this time in a coaching capacity.

The Spaniard recently announced that he is clon the verge of renewing with Qatari outfit Al-Sadd. The doubts have been mounting about Koeman as his record in the big games continues to worsen. But, regarding his future, no concrete news has emerged as yet.
