Former FIFA referee Jaswant Singh Sran dies at COVID-19 quarantine centre Tuesday night

Former FIFA referee Jaswant Singh Sran has passed on at a COVID-19 quarantine centre on Tuesday night.

However, the actual cause of death has yet to be ascertained as the deceased had not been infected by the Coronavirus COVID-19 virus.

According to Jaswant’s brother, Dr Kalwant Singh, the former Deputy Superintendent of Policehad been relocated to the quarantine centre after several residents of Wisma Tatt Khalsa in Chow Kit, where he used to live, were found positive for COVID-19.

“We are still waiting fot the autopsy report to find out the actual cause of death as the deceased was found to be negative in all three tests. Two tests were done before, while the last one was done this morning,” he told Bernama when contacted.

The former Bukit Aman police officer, long a prominent figure associated with the development of Malaysian football, was also a certified FIFA referee and had refereed even in key matches involving legends such as Soh Chin Aun and the late R. Arumugam in the heydays of Malaysian football during the 70s and 80s.

Jaswant, who is survived by his daughter now living in England, was also the co-founder of the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA).

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), among several others, expressed condolences to his family.
