Top 4 La Liga teams will qualify Champions League even if season not finished

Spanish Football Association (RFEF) general Secretary, Andreu Camps has confirmed that the top four teams in La Liga will qualify for next season’s Champions League even if season is not completed.

That means if the season ended earlier, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Real Sociedad will play in the Champions League next season.

“The RFEF wants to have done its homework in case, in the event of a suspension of competitions, it receives the request from UEFA regarding the Spanish clubs that would have access to European competitions next season,” Andreu Camps said in a statement.

“Thus… it has been agreed in the RFEF Delegate Commission to make a plan in order to give certainty in an extreme scenario, such as not being able to finish the competitions, so that all the clubs know the new scenario they are facing.”

After 27 league games were completed, Barcelona topped La Liga with 58 points, followed by Real Madrid with 56 points, Sevilla third on 47, and Real Sociedad with 46 points.

Getafe which is fifth place and Atletico Madrid in sixth will qualify for the Europa League.

But Copa del Ray final could change on who will eventually qualify for Europa League.

With Copa Del Rey finalists Real Sociedad already in the top four, their opponents Athletic Bilbao which 10th in the league are in pole position for the third Europa League spot.

If that happens, the final Europa League spot will go to the seventh-placed team in La Liga.
