Michael Carrick eyed by West Ham to replace Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui looks to be on the brink of being sacked as the Hammers’ manager, with club bosses deciding to keep him in place for Monday’s crunch clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the likelihood of the Spaniard being dismissed if they lose the home game.

West Ham have already started considering replacements for Lopetegui with several big names having been linked with the East London club so far, including Edin Terzic, Graham Potter and Max Allegri. And now the Irons are supposedly weighing up a move for Michael Carrick, having been impressed with his work at Middlesbrough, according to the Daily Mirror. He is said to be one of the names high up on the shortlist at the London Stadium.

The 43-year-old began his career at West Ham and went on to make over 100 appearances for them. Carrick spent most of his career at Manchester United, but he is still remembered fondly at the Hammers. The former England international has been Boro’s head coach since October 2022. He led them to the play-off semi-finals in his first campaign before guiding them to the last four of the EFL Cup last term.

Middlesbrough are also doing well this season, and clearly do not want to lose their manager who is helping to build a promotion push in the Championship. However, West Ham are very eager to sign him due to the attractive brand of football he is aggressively peddling, besides his link to the club.
