Roy Keane brutally slamdunks Jamie Carragher with feisty repartee during Trent Alexander-Arnold debate

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool is in in the grey area, with Real Madrid interested in signing the Liverpool star, prompting the ever-feisty Roy Keane to make a hilarious quip about loyalty after Jamie Carragher gave his thoughts on the situation.

Keane rapidly shut down Carragher’s comments about Alexander-Arnold with a sarcastic quip about loyalty, when the conversation switched to the latter’s long-term future being up in the air, with Real Madrid keen to sign the full-back next summer. This had emerged as a major topic of discussion after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

Carragher, who spent his entire career at Liverpool, warned Alexander-Arnold that leaving Anfield could affect his legacy with the fans, citing the examples of Michael Owen and Steve McManaman who both left the club for Madrid.

“Michael Owen moved, Steve McManaman moved and they were two amazing players for Liverpool,” Carragher said on Sky Sports. “But they’re not thought of as amazing players by Liverpool supporters because they moved on.

“That’s one of the reasons Steven Gerrard is such a legend at the club and seen as the greatest ever player to play for the club because he stayed here for his whole career.”

Keane then saucily chimed in: “Loyalty you think has to come into it? Right. I always say if you want loyalty get yourself a dog. And that’s from my own experience.”

With Alexander-Arnold being in the final year of his contract, he will be able to negotiate with non-English clubs like Madrid in January. The 26-year-old has also been tight-lipped about his future when asked, stating last month: “The most important thing is trophies, if I’m honest.

“I want to win trophies. I’m a player who’s highly motivated by trophies and winning things and being elite. That’s probably the main factor of anything. If you’ve got a personality that is an elite athlete that wants to win and will do anything to win, then that’s what drives them.

“I’ve been at the club 20 years now. I’ve signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public and this one won’t be either. I want to be a Liverpool player this season is what I’ll say.”
