Thomas Tuchel ‘was sacked by Chelsea for mysterious off-the-field reasons – and because players lost respect for him’

It now appears former PSG coach Thomas Tuchel ‘was sacked by Chelsea for off-field reasons and because the players lost respect for him’, according to an email from his ex-wife.

This was revealed in a hearing at Munich’s district court following the split between Tuchel, 49, and his wife Sissi, 51, last year after the couple had been through 13 years of marriage.

Apparently Tuchel’s former spouse Sissi, a former journalist for Suddeutsche Zeitung, received a call from England in which she was told the alleged reasons for his sacking from the Chelsea club in September last year, German newspaper Bild reports.

Sissi was apparently informed that her former husband had lost the respect of the Chelsea players despite him having led them to Champions League success in 2021. That aside, mysterious ‘off-field reasons’ were also cited in in an email that Tuchel had attempted to procure a temporary injunction preventing Sissi disclosing the contents of the message, Bild said.

At that time, differences of opinion between Tuchel and the new Chelsea ownership led by Todd Boehly, as well as poor results on the pitch, had been given as the reasons for his dismissal.

Bild further revealed they were unable to publish the wording of some of the claims in the email for legal reasons and neither Tuchel or his ex-wife wished to comment on this. The pair married in 2009 and had two daughters together, and it was Sisi who initiated the divorce proceedings, The Mail on Sunday revealed in April last year.

The presiding judge said the Munich hearing was conducted behind closed doors ‘because the highly personal area of life is touched on and the truthfulness of the statements is also disputed.’

Since his his sacking, Tuchel has not taken up another job as a manager with other football clubs. His creditable portfolio shows 60 wins out of 100 games in charge of Chelsea itself, besides leading them to Champions League trophy honors defeating highly-acclaimed Manchester City 1-0 in Porto.

Under his command the Blues also won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, while losing two FA Cup finals.

Another revelation pertaining to  Tuchel’s sacking was made back in January when former Crystal Palace owner and Sportsmail columnist Simon Jordan said the ‘secret reason’ Boehly sacked Tuchel would ‘make people’s eyes water’.

He told talkSPORT: “There’s a lot more behind the scenes that would make most people’s eyes water as to the reasons why Todd Boehly made that decision and it wasn’t just a case of losing to Dinamo Zagreb, it was a case of a raft of other things – that’s Todd Boehly’s gift to tell people what it is.

“But it opened my eyes and I would’ve done exactly the same thing as Todd Boehly did which is ‘you can go mate.'”
