Real Madrid identify Bruno Guimaraes as alternative option to Jude Bellingham

Real Madrid are apparently keeping a keen eye on Bruno Guimaraes for the remainder of the 2022-2023 season as the LaLiga giants have earmarked the 25-year-old midfielder as an alternative option to Borussia Dortmund and Three Lions rising star Jude Bellingham, according to reports.

Understandably, Real Madrid will be staring stiff competition in the face to sign Guimaraes as several clubs are already in the queue to sign the Brazilian following his impressive spell at Newcastle.

Guimaraes left Lyon to sign with Newcastle in a £40million deal in January 2022 and rapidly went on to establish himself as a mainstay in the team.

The 25-year-old has since left an indelible impression having scored eight goals in 34 appearances to help Newcastle challenge for a top-four spot in the Premier League.

As it stands Newcastle are currently sitting a very comfortable fifth in the table, just four points off fourth-place Tottenham, and the Magpies are not ignorant of the fact that Guimaraes is pivotal to their success and are doing all they can to anchor him to a long-term contract at the club.

However, Mundo Deportivo alleges that Real Madrid have targeted Guimaraes as a potential target for the summer transfer window despite being still interested in signing Bellingham. The Los Blancos are said to be keeping themelves open to alternative options as numerous competitors are vying for the England midfielder’s signature. Hence Madrid view Guimaraes as a creditable replacement for Casemiro after he left the LaLiga giants to join Manchester United.

Guimaraes – despite looking happy and contented for the moment with Newcastle – could also be invaluable as a replacement for Toni Kroos as the latter’s future in Spain is still largely uncertain.

The 25-year-old took to social media after the game to write the following:  “That’s football. Not always giving our best is enough. Let’s keep walking our path in pursuit of Newcastle’s success.

“With delivery, dedication and love for the project and fans were represent. Healing our wounds and moving forward in search of the top. For NUFC. For the fans.

“I’m proud but not happy. Because I’ll never accept the defeat. I have no words for your support. Thank you so much.”
