Another La Liga record for Messi with stunner against Huesca

Barcelona star Lionel Messi’s slick first-half finish saw him reach yet another unprecedented goalscoring mark as diminutive wizard continued his unstoppable assault on Spanish football’s record books.

Messi mesmerizingly scored Barcelona’s first and last goals in Monday’s 4-1 crusher against Huesca, a match that also marked yet another milestone for the brilliant Argentine.

This marked Messi’s 767th appearance for the Catalans, putting him level with his legendary teammate Xavi for the most appearances in Barca colors. And with his first goal on Monday, Messi notched his 20th goal of his 2020-21 La Liga campaign for the 13th consecutive season, becoming the only player to do so in the competition’s history.

Not content to rest on his laurels, the Argentine’s sparkle dazzled again in the 90th minute as he added one more for good measure, sealing a totally lopsided win for an elated Barca side.

Messi has so far scored 660 total goals for Barcelona, putting him 428 clear of second-placed Cesar Rodriguez in the club’s goalscoring record book. Adding to that achievement, Messi has a grand total of 34 trophies to his name during his time featuring for the Blaugrana.

Despite Barcelona’s Champions League coming to a premature end at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain last week, Barca are still strongly in contention in La Liga’s title race.

Following Monday’s game, Barca have now gone 17 games without losing in La Liga, the longest active streak in Europe’s top five leagues.

That run has them sitting second in La Liga entering the match, two points ahead of second-place Real Madrid and four behind league-leaders Atletico Madrid.
