Mikel Arteta’s quick quip as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang drops FA Cup trophy

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was scintillaitng on the pitch against the Blues as he produced a stunning display in the final, scoring twice to guide the Gunners to victory – but his performance off the pitch while lifting the trophy was less spectacular as he dropped the FA Cup during the presentation.

Gunners’ boss Mikel Arteta was quick with a smart response to Aubameyang dropping the FA Cupat the trophy-lifting ceremony as Arsenal  celebrated their triumph over Frank Lampard’s Chelsea in the final. The Gunners captain scored a brace to lead his side to victory after Christian Pulisic opened the scoring for the Blues.

Arteta made light of Aubameyang dropping the same trophy he lifted as Gunners captain in 2014, claiming he will grow used to lifting titles under his management.

“He needs more experience with trophies, we can get him used to that,” the Spaniard quipped after the match.

The triumph over Chelsea marks the first time the Gabon striker has won silverware since his move to Arsenal in 2018.

He has been on the receiving end of near misses, with Arsenal beaten in the EFL Cup final in 2018 and the Europa League showpiece last year.

Aubameyang’s last trophy victory came with former club Borussia Dortmund as they beat Eintracht Frankfurt to win the German Cup in 2017.
