Bernardo Silva’s banter with Bruno Fernandes on Man Utd trophy drought

Looks like in their on-going banter, Bruno Fernandes likes to remind Bernardo Silva that Man United have got the better of City in recent exchanges but the City star Bernardo Silva has hit back at Bruno Fernandes, reminding him that Man City are a long way off winning a title and that the Citizens hold the ultimate bragging rights. Harmless tit-for-that although this is still a glaring fact.

The compatriots are good friends who have been in touch in Manchester since Fernandes completed a £67million transfer from Sporting Lisbon in January. Fernandes has played in one Manchester derby since his move, and was on the winning side as goals from Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay saw United brush the Citizens aside.

The Red Devils have definitely gotten the better of Man City in recent exchanges, and have won three of the four matches in which they have played against them this season.

Fernandes in his tonque-in-cheek way likes to remind Silva of this stat, according to the former Monaco man yet Silva is quick with this repartee to remind Fernandes who has the ultimate bragging rights, pointing out that United still have to “eat a lot of soup” to win a title.

Silva told 5 Para a Meia-Noite show on Portuguese TV: “I went to Troia with some friends and it was a lot of fun. We ran, played tennis. Now I’ve been here in Manchester for 10 days and I’m sick of it.

“I spoke to [Fernandes] about three days ago. He’s winning 1-0 in the games between us here, but he still has to eat a lot of soup to reach the titles.”

Manchester United’s last title win came in 2013, in what was Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign at Old Trafford. Since then Man City have won the Premier League title three times – twice in the past two seasons – while United’s highest finish has been second, under current Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho.
