Chelsea fans were rejoiced after their two-window transfer ban has been lifted, meaning they can sign new players immediately.
But speaking to Lampard after his side beat Lille 2-1 to reach the Champions League last 16, it was pretty clear that they want to sign a new player with flair and creativity, something that Eden Hazard has been done during his time with the club.
“The transfer window will be a bit fluid. It is quite clear in the summer we lost Eden Hazard who has been a huge part of scoring and creating for us in the last few seasons. We need more competition in those creative areas.”
Hazard scored 110 goals in 352 games for Chelsea and left for Real Madrid this summer.
At the moment, Chelsea would be able to sign players who have played in the Champions League this season since UEFA changed its rules last year to stop players for being cup-tied.
Lampard took over from Maurizio Sarri this summer, but was not able to sign anyone new and has given plenty of youngsters a starting eleven.
So far, Chelsea are fourth in the Premier League and finished second in their Champions League group behind Valencia.
It remain to be seen however, whether Chelsea or, Frank Lampard himself could lure any top players in Europe, given his short experience in the managerial career.
