[VIDEO] Lyon stun Juventus

Despite being an underdog, Lyon proved they are good enough as they beat Juventus 1-0 in the first leg Champions League Round of 16.

Lucas Tousart scored the only goal of the game in 31 minute.

What is more surprising is how Juve produced 64 percent of posession and 14 shots – but not a single shot is on target.

That means they have failed to have a shot on target in a Champions League match for the first time since October 2014 against Atletico Madrid.

Lyon produced 12 shots out of their measly 36 percent of posession, but at least they 2 shots on target.

Juventus boss Maurizio Sarri is baffled by the way his team plays.

“In the first half the ball was circulating too slowly. The second half was much better but in the Champions League it’s not enough to play one half.

“I don’t know why I didn’t manage to let my players understand that the ball must circulate much quicker. It all starts from there. Yesterday in training it was circulating much better.”

Lyon manager Rudi Garcia impressed that his team managed to score and shut up their shop quite effectively.

“It was a game of two halves. The first half was very beautiful. Not only did we defend very well, we respected the gameplan to the letter. In the second half we didn’t exist with the ball and suffered.

“They brought on the fourth attacker and then we had to roll our sleeves up and all defend together. We didn’t concede and that’s very important when you play the first leg at home. My only regret is that we didn’t get a second when we were on top in the first half.”

The win means Lyon have beaten Juventus in European competition for the very first time in their history, after losing three of their previous four encounters.

However, Juventus have a history of progressing from five of their 11 Champions League knockout ties when losing the first leg, including against Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16 last season.
