Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid ‘confirmed’ as agreement in principle with La Liga giants on long-term contract reached

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to leave Liverpool and join Real Madrid in the summer after reportedly agreeing to a lucrative five-year contract with the La Liga giants. The 26-year-old right-back, who has spent his entire career at Liverpool, will make the move as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the season.

According to multiple reports, including Sky Sports Switzerland, Alexander-Arnold’s representatives, including his brother, finalized personal terms with Real Madrid. The deal will see him earn €15 million (£13 million/$16 million) annually, a significant increase from his current salary at Liverpool. Additionally, he will receive performance bonuses and a signing bonus comparable to a sizeable transfer fee.

Liverpool had made repeated attempts throughout the season to convince their vice-captain to sign a new contract, including a final offer over the weekend. However, Alexander-Arnold reportedly rejected these proposals, with his “heart set” on joining Real Madrid for a new challenge. The move marks the end of an era for Liverpool, as Alexander-Arnold has been a key figure in their success, winning the Premier League, Champions League, and several domestic trophies.

Real Madrid have long been interested in Alexander-Arnold, with their pursuit dating back 18 months. He is expected to compete for minutes with Dani Carvajal but is seen as the long-term successor to the veteran right-back. Meanwhile, Liverpool will face the challenge of replacing their star defender, with academy graduate Conor Bradley and Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong among potential options.

Before departing Anfield, Alexander-Arnold remains focused on helping Liverpool secure their second Premier League title under manager Arne Slot. The Reds currently hold a commanding 12-point lead over second-placed Arsenal and will next face Everton at Anfield on April 2.
