‘Bad luck doesn’t exist in football’ – Guardiola urges his players to learn from their struggles after 3-3 draw with Tottenham

Pep Guardiola is insistent Manchester City’s current form the last few matches cannot be blamed on luck — yet was simply beyond words to account for why the Treble winners are conceding so many goals.

Guardiola has been stumped watching his side let in 10 goals in their last four games in all competitions, which means the Etihad gladiators have failed to win three straight Premier League matches for the first time in six years. By comparison, Spurs scored their three goals from just four shots on target.

“We don’t concede many chances,” Guardiola said. “We lost against Wolves after two shots on target. Liverpool was similar.“We have to learn, and watch the game back. I learnt from Johan Cruyff that bad luck in football doesn’t exist. Is the team completely different from previous seasons? I don’t think so. It still feels the same to me.”

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou was as usual candid in his assessment of his injury-depleted squad performance at the break.

“First half we were lucky still to be in it,’ the Australian said.

“City could’ve blown us away. I said to them that if there’s any fallout, I’ll take responsibility but let’s show more conviction. The effort second half was outstanding.”
