Frank Lampard on the brink of getting the sack at Everton after Brighton trouncing

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is walking a tightrope and is allegedly “on the brink” of being sacked as Everton manager after the 4-1 debacle losing to Brighton at Goodison Park.

The Toffees were at the wrong end of a battering ram at home and were 4-0 in the negative within an hour, which understandably incited discontented fans with chants to “sack the board” once again.

At this point Lampard looks to be the target most likely to take the blame, with The Guardian reporting that the Chelsea legend is already on the brink of losing his job.

“Frank Lampard on the brink at Everton after Brighton humiliation – but vows to fight on,” was the headline (4 January), while they also say that it looks like “being a brief reign at Goodison” for Lampard.

The Toffees’ performance was a totally shambolic exercise that was as infuriating as it was perplexing only days after holding Manchester City to a draw with a top defensive performance. One can’t help but wonder why a system that had worked perfectly well just days before had been changed.

The question looming now is why the apathy on behalf of the owners and the board in their resolve to support the team while Lampard will obviously the the sacrificial lamb, albeit probably deservedly.

The imminent prospect of relegation is looming menacingly and would simply be a disaster heading into a new stadium with huge financial problems already long manifesting.

Yet somehow fans haven’t begun to fully turn on Lampard, as eyes seem to be mainly on Moshiri above him. This of course hardly absolves him from his responsibilities as the manager as his performance clearly hasn’t been good enough and being sacked after this most recent showing will surprise no one.
