Harry Kane’s honest Antonio Conte admission and his hopes for his future

Harry Kane has taken retrospective look at his season, one laden with highs and lows, as he looks ahead at what could be next for him at Tottenham.

The England captain was not coy in admitting that this wasn’t his greatest season at Tottenham as he had been slow off the starting blocks after the failed move to Man City last summer.

Fortunately he had managed to turn things around by the end of the campaign, having managed to break the record with Son Heung-min for the most combination goals and he managed to rack up 17 league goals and nine assists himself. With the arrival of Dejan Kulusevski in January, the trio created a dangerous front line and helped Spurs finish the season strong.

Antonio Conte’s arrival in November was expeditious in seeing the Lilywhites go from strength to strength and even finishing the season inside the top four, thus confirming their spot in the Champions League for next season. This has had the effect of giving the current squad a boost besides making the club more attractive for potential new signings.

The Italian serial award-winning wizard has had a major influence on Spurs, both on and off the pitch, in the short amount of time he has been in N17, despite some concerns from fans over whether he would get the backing he needed from Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici to facilitate the building of the squad he believes can be successful.

The backing of Conte will please Spurs fans and encourage the Italian to remain the man in charge of N17. It will also help in attracting potential new arrivals to Tottenham, by having a world-class manager, along with the top facilities and location.

Not only that but football.london understands that Kane believes Conte getting the backing he needs can help with him and the club’s joint ambition of winning a major trophy with the Lilywhites. Tottenham have now been without silverware for 14 years and if anyone can change that, it is likely to be the 52-year-old.

According to football.london, the England captain is excited for the future and isn’t harboring any plans to move away from Spurs. The added hope is that if the club continues to show this ambition, Kane is understood to be open to extending his stay in N17, beyond the two years he has left on his contract.

In a recent interview with FourFourTwo, the 28-year-old looked back on his season and the rollercoaster nature of it. “Obviously it’s been up and down. It wasn’t the start of the season that I wanted, of course,” Kane admitted.

“I’m my own biggest critic, I know when I’m playing well, I know when I’m not, and I know when I can do better. It was disappointing – England and the other competitions were going OK but the Premier League wasn’t quite falling for me. As a team we weren’t doing well, so there was a mixture of stuff going on.

“But I’m proud of the way I’ve turned it around and got back to some decent numbers in the league. It’s all part of the journey – I’m always looking to be consistent, but there will be times when things don’t go your way and you have to find a way of turning it in your favour,” he added.

The improved form of the striker has noticeably improved since Conte’s arrival, like a number of his Tottenham teammates and Kane has been full of praise for his boss.

“Antonio is a really good manager and I’m really enjoying working with him,” the England captain explained.

“He just brings a real passion, an energy, a real enthusiasm to training and games, and just makes you want to work. You want to work hard for him, you want to run for him.

“He’s won everywhere he’s gone, so you respect him a lot, and I’m just enjoying it. I’ve worked with some great managers and he’s another one. I feel like my game’s improving under him. Hopefully it continues,” Kane said.
