‘Friction’ forces Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to change Man Utd’s Erling Haaland transfer plans

Manchester United are still waiting with bated breath to sign Erling Haaland at some point in the future, but might be forced to look elsewhere due to awkward circumstances that have cropped up most recently.

The Old Trafford hierarchy could well expect to be shown an odious upright middle finger in their faces if they’re still cherishing hopes of signing Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Erling Haaland due to their acerbic relationship with the striker’s agent, Mino Raiola, according to reports.

United were desperate to sign Haaland this time last year when the Norwegian striker was still at RB Salzburg but the sizzling youngster was courted by teams from around Europe, and eventually ended up at Borussia Dortmund.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who had worked with him before at Molde, was intent on bringing him to Old Trafford but the negotiations and the offer came to nought.

It now appears the latest undercurrent friction between club and agent, arising from Raiola’s rumblings regarding Pogba’s intentions to leave United for greener pastures, that emerged recently would be the likely deal-breaker.

The Athletic claims Haaland is still at the top of Solskjaer’s list of dream targets. And that is most probably what it will ultimately be – the Norwegian’s unfulfilled dream.

Dominic Calvert Lewin has apparently emerged as a potential alternative instead as the Everton striker has been on fire this season, sumptuously bagging 14 goals in 16 games in the league and Carabao Cup.

He’s under contract until 2025, and it seems unlikely Everton would even consider selling him unless they receive an astronomical bid as Carlo Ancelotti has a great rapport with the England international, and would be unwilling to let him go under any circumstances.

United are still eager to sign a new striker before too long, with Odion Ighalo set to return to China in January.

Edinson Cavani, who was signed as a short-term fix late in the summer transfer window, is only under contract until the end of the season, and it seems unlikely they will make any signings before the summer.
