[VIDEO] The beautiful end of Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva at PSG

Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva used to be the household names for Paris Saint-Germain. Now they will leave after Champions League is concluded in August.

PSG sporting director Leonardo said it was a difficult decision to make since they are ‘players who made their mark on the club’s history.’

“The stories were so beautiful. But, yes, we are coming to the end.”

“We had to make a logical decision. Maybe we are wrong, I don’t know – there is never a perfect moment.

“Now the Champions League is still in sight, and the idea is to continue competing with them until the end of August. How it can be done is not yet clear.”

Cavani scored 200 goals throughout his career with PSG while Thiago Silva has been the club captain for eight years.

Both players’ contracts will expire on 30 June and they should be free to move on since Ligue 1 season has been canceled in April, but there is still Champions League quarter-finals that needs to play.

Cavani’s departure means new striker will replace him as PSG signed Mauro Icardi for 60m euros from Inter Milan last month.

Leonardo however, remains upbeat on the future of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at the club.

“They still have two years on their contracts and we’re more thinking about the future with them. We want to go forward.”
