After joining Barcelona in the summer, Frenkie de Jong was supposed to play an important role at Nou Camp, yet De Telegraaf reports that’s not the case.
What is even more shocking is Ernesto Valverde does not want to sign the Dutchman as he is already happy with trio midfield Ivan Rakitic, Arthur Melo and Sergio Busquets.
The report said “Valverde refuses to let De Jong deploy his strengths as a deep lying playmaker, a ’6′, or in that position from the left.”
De Jong also reportedly forced to function “like he is on autopilot with the handbrake on” in Barcelona current system.
Therefore he is not allowed to feature as a “dominant player”.
To be fair, the only one who can prove this wrong is De Jong.
There’s been a growing frustration toward Valverde especially after failing to win El Clasico against Real Madrid at Camp Nou.
