Chelsea’s new owner expected to be in the stands vs Wolves

Chelsea have come out with the announcement that arrangements had been negotiated with the Todd Boehly group in relation to the transference of the ownership of the club, according to Chelsea’s official website (h/t Express).

An official statement on the club’s official website has been released stating that the club would be purchased by a “new ownership group” led by Todd Boehly, with the club’s shares to be purchased for £2.5 billion, with the revenues going to charity and £1.75 billion for the club’s “benefit,” according to the announcement.

The statement mentioned:

“In addition, the proposed new owners will commit £1.75bn in further investment for the benefit of the Club. This includes investments in Stamford Bridge, the Academy, the Women’s Team and Kingsmeadow and continued funding for the Chelsea Foundation.”

“The sale is expected to complete in late May subject to all necessary regulatory approvals. More details will be provided at that time.”

Chelsea stalwarts will be glad and most relieved the period of uncertainty and ambiguity will now soon be over with the Blues’ official website having issued a statement that brings some good news to Stamford Bridge. With the transfer done swiftly, the club will now be able to move on and engage in contract talks with their current players as well as partake in transfer dealings.

Boehly’s group signed the papers on Friday after being confirmed as Chelsea’s preferred bidder and agreeing to a set of “anti-Glazer” stipulations . The signing of the acquisition agreement is the most significant move thus far despite the deal not being completed yet.

Now what is required is for the government to first issue a Chelsea sale licence as Boehly is on track to complete his purchase later this month, with only three weeks remaining on the London club’s existing operating licence.

An exodus from the club is already expected this summer with the futures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen hovering in the air while Marcos Alonso has himself been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. On top of that, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta have just a year left on their deals.

Hopefully now the end of the ownership saga means Chelsea can now look to bring in new faces to strengthen their team. It also means that there is an end to the insecurity about the club’s future as the deal had to be completed before a certain deadline to avoid Premier League expulsion.

The Blues face Wolves today in a crucial Premier League match to secure a spot in the top four and the good news is that the new owner is also expected to be in the stands for the match.
