Man Utd keen on Antony transfer as Ruben Amorim makes his mark

Manchester United winger Antony has failed dismally in living up to expectations since being signed for a substantial transfer fee during the early days of former manager Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

Manchester United are ready to cut their losses on the Brazilian in January as the club prepare to start a new era under Ruben Amorim after th e Red Devils splashed out more than £81.3million to bring the Brazil international to Old Trafford in 2022. But Antony, 24, was never anywhere close to replicating the promising form  that had made him such a hit for Erik ten Hag and Ajax in the Netherlands.

Ten Hag was sacked by United last month and the Daily Star have now revealed that Antony is set to follow suit – if the club can find a taker for the winger in the winter transfer window. United are willing to listen to offers for Antony, which would also appear to include loan proposals if they cannot offload the £200,000-a-week star permanently.

The report outlines that Ten Hag had questioned Antony’s attitude in training prior to his departure, while sources close to the club have also disclosed that the player has been deemed a ‘disruptive influence in and around the squad’. United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ‘keen’ on getting Antony off the wage bill in the wake of his disappointing impact since joining the club for big money prior to his own arrival at Old Trafford.

Amorim will take charge of his first game since joining United this Sunday when he takes his new team to Portman Road, where they will face top-flight new boys Ipswich Town.

However he could be without a host of recognised first-team stars, with Lisandro Martinez the latest player to suffer an injury whilst on international duty as the defender was sent home early from camp with a sore back and it remains to be seen if he will feature for United this weekend.
