According to the Athletic, Manchester United have held internal talks over the possibility of signing either Calvert-Lewin or Brentford’s Ivan Toney as striker options.
Despite the Toffees striker’s injury record, it is understood that the Manchester club have noted that the player played 18 Premier League minutes more than Rasmus Hojlund last term.
Football fans would no doubt be aware of the Red Devils’ active interest in 21-year-old Jarrad Branthwaite all this while, who took the Premier League by storm last season.
However, even the new bid of £45million plus add-ons for the defender have been rejected by the Toffees as it does not match their valuation, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Hence Erik ten Hag’s bosses are now considering a move for 27-year-old Calvert-Lewin, who has been a regular fixture at Goodison Park since arriving from Sheffield United in 2016, with forward having gone on to make 247 appearances for the Toffee and making a lasting impact on Merseyside, especially having helped Sean Dyche and his men to survive relegation last term.
Although it has been a relatively mean spell where goals are concerned for the striker during the 2023/24 campaign, Calvert-Lewin still finished the season with seven Premier League goals to his name, scoring four times in his final seven matches.
The striker has now entered the final 12 months of his contract and the club could look to offload him instead of losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Additionally, his sale would also help to alleviate some concerns with PSR this summer, which could help strengthen the Toffees’ position on Branthwaite, though Amadou Onana is also being linked with a move away.
