The Toffees had been skating close to the precipice of relegation in the past two seasons despite having shown marginal signs of improvement under Sean Dyche this season.
Unfortunately the stark reality now is that they could face a massive 12-point deduction, and pundit Gary Neville commented on Twitter that the Toffees won’t be able to recover from that blow if that were to happen.
He said when asked if Dyche will keep Everton up: “Yes but not with a points deduction.”
Currently sitting16th in the Premier League table with only seven points on board from nine games, the Toffees would be down to -5 if they are deducted 12 points, which would make it next to impossible for them to avoid relegation.
The Telegraphy reports that the Toffees face a 12-point deduction in its case against them for breaching profit and sustainability rules, and could also face the threat of severe sanctions if they lose their fight against allegedly breaking the Premier League’s financial regulations. Their case is being heard at the moment by an independent commission after they recorded a heavy loss of £304m over a three-year period.
Since clubs are permitted to amount to £105 million set out by the Premier League, chances are high that Everton will lose their case.
Dyche may have the caliber to steer Everton to Premier League safety but he definitely isn’t capable of walking on water should the Toffees suffer a massive 12-point deduction.
