Why Bayern Munich unexpectedly sacked Julian Nagelsmann

Suffice it to say that the decision to pull the plug on Julian Nagelsmann was supposedly one based on performance, or the lack thereof.

This is according to Bild who have forwarded an explanation for why the Bundesliga giants sacked Julian Nagelsmann out of the blue. Apparently, the move caught not only the rest of the football world by surprise but the (now former) coach as well as he was blissfully on a skiing holiday in Austria when he got the news.

The report alleges that the bosses finally decided that the 10 dropped points in 2023 were due to the coach, and foresaw the goals of the season would be in jeopardy. The decision was then quickly made that the international break was the perfect time to replace the coach with Thomas Tuchel as soon as possible. Tuchel is now slated to lead Bayern training for the game against Borussia Dortmund starting from Monday.

The decision to expedite the move was apparently impacted by market conditions as Bayern were anxious that Tuchel would soon be removed from the pool of potential replacements if they didn’t move quickly as both Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur were showing keen interest in the former Chelsea coach. Apparently they’ve had him in mind for several years now, ever since he was first in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

As for Julian Nagelsmann, this is a sudden and unexpected end to his Bayern Munich tenure, a development that no one could’ve seen coming as club President Herbert Hainer was keenly backing him to go all the way versus Manchester City in the Champions League just a few days ago. Unfortunately for the gaffer, it looks like the Bayern board decided otherwise at the last minute and pulled the plug.

To spice things up, Fabrizio Romano claims there were backroom tensions at Bayern between Nagelsmann and the board. He must surely have some reliable sources as he was the one who broke the news:

“From my understanding, there were some serious problems between Nagelsmann and the Bayern board + some players were no longer trusting the coach’s tactical ways. That’s why they decided to go with something new”

Let’s see how things work out.
