Qatar are confronting a downright awkward PSG issue head-on as they ‘work around the clock’ to relieve ownership of Manchester United from the Glazer family.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, is dead serious in his desire to buy Manchester United rather than to be just a minority investor, despite also being the owner of Ligue 1’s Paris Saint-Germain. The Qatari Sheikh has emerged as the frontrunner to take over the club from the Glazer family, although complications have arisen from his being also the owner of the Parc des Princes club as UEFA rules state that clubs with the same owner can’t face off in any competition, including the Champions League.
If Qatar were to take over ownership of United, potential issues could surface between PSG and the Manchester club in Europe’s premier competition.
However, according to The Guardian, this glitch will not in any way deter nor halt Hamad al-Thani’s attempt to purchase United from the Glazers this year as the driving force behind Qatar’s interest is not unaware of the potential issues involving PSG but is confident a solution can be found.
Key to this would be to prove that United wouldn’t be administered by the same management structure and personnel as PSG, who are owned by Qatar Sports Investments.
The ultimate scenario could end up similar to Red Bull GmbH’s growing presence in European football as the proprietor of both RB Salzburg and RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
