Barcelona outcast Memphis Depay is rumored to be open to joining Manchester United from Barcelona even as the clock is running out of time in the transfer window.
According to football journalist Dean Jones who told Give Me Sport that the Dutch player has already been offered on a platter to United this summer, Depay would allegedly not be against the idea of returning to Old Trafford.
It is already open knowledge that Erik ten Hag is desperately on the hunt for a top-class center-forward asas numerous doubts are still circling over Cristiano Ronaldo’s uncertain future at the club.
Dutchman Ten Hag has already signed Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen, Casemiro and Antony this summer. The addition of someone like Depay really would really be some form of icing on what could finally work out to be a great summer window for both United and the gaffer.
And it seems as though there’s every possibility of this actually materialising as Dean Jones has said that Depay returning to Old Trafford before the transfer window slams shut tomorrow night is far from impossible:
“Memphis has been offered to them, he’s not against the idea of a return. There are a couple of people at the club that are a bit sceptical about whether he’s the right fit for the direction they’re heading, and it would still be a slight surprise if he turned up.”
If Ronaldo truly does leave Old Trafford before deadline day, the Barcelona star would be the ideal man to come in and lead the line for Ten Hag’s side. At the very least, he would provide strong competition and the incentive for Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial to be on their toes.
A precocious talent who is unplayable on his day, the former United ace is known to be incredibly strong and would be ideal to lead the line on his own for United. The Barcelona ace has been described as a player with ‘unreal skill’ by the Metro.
With 80 caps to his credit, the Holland international also possesses exceptional technical ability with a penchant for the unusual and the extraordinary. Depay bagged 13 goals and two assists in 38 games for Barca last season.
The Manchester Evening News has hailed Depay as a ‘world-class talent’ albeit his having struggled during his first spell at Old Trafford. It now remains to be seen whether Manchester United are prepared to meet Barcelona’s demands for Memphis Depay though with Sport reckoning that Barca want around £17 million for the 28-year-old, whilst Give Me Sport suggests that he earns around £230k-a-week at the Camp Nou.
That would be a serious outlay for United, considering how much money they’ve already spent this summer. But they may not have a choice as it is clear that they are truly desperate now, especially as the final hours are now trickling to an end pretty soon.
