Ligue 1 boss backs Lionel Messi over PSG exit plans

Lionel Messi has received fresh support from a key individual within Ligue 1 in his endeavor to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The 35-year-old World Cup winner has a major decision on his future to resolve in the coming weeks as his PSG contract expires in June and relations seem to have reached a breaking point in the Parc des Princes club.

A humble, contrite Messi tendered his apology after having been suspended by the Parisian club for his allegedly unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia but his time at the Parc des Princes seems to be coming to a close. This is despite the earlier optimism arising from the Argentine wizard signing a 12-month extension clause but it is now rumored that PSG are ready to let him go, with his previous club Barcelona desperately leaving no stone unturned to work out a comeback deal for their former lynchpin and skipper.

PSG’s unappreciative fans have been almost incendiary in their criticism of Messi’s conduct in 2023, chanting with hostility against him at home games, and exuding negativity against him on social media in recent weeks.

Nantes head coach, and former PSG defender, Antoine Kombouare has come forward and lambasted the appalling attitude of the fans and called on Messi to walk away from the situation.

“I don’t care what happens, it’s PSG’s problem. But, I’m in love with Messi as a player,”, as per reports from Marca.

“We don’t touch Messi. Whatever he does. I’m passionate on that.

“If I had Messi in my team, I would tell him to stay up front, never to defend. I would like to see him have fun and shine.

“If he leaves, I’d be very happy, as it’s deserved.”

PSG are currently are still caught up in their last leg of battling to retain their Ligue 1 title this season.

A decision on Messi’s next step is expected at the end of the campaign.
