Scholes brands Edinson Cavani ‘a disgrace’ while sending warning to Manchester United defender

Former Man United great Paul Scholes seems to having little love lost for Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani who is leaving this summer.

Scholes has branded Cavani ‘a disgrace’ after the latter’s injury-ridden campaign for Manchester United, having managed just 20 appearances for the Reds in all competitions, and scoring just twice. The 35-year-old was inflicted with three injuries during the course of the season which kept him out for long spells.

The Uruguayan’s contract at Old Trafford runs out in June and he is expected to leave the club for a spell at another European team. Scholes bared it all on Premier League Productions that he will not be missing the Uruguayan one bit when he leaves.

“Cavani I think was a disgrace this year, he hardly ever played,” he said.

“He pulled out of the Middlesbrough game because he had to travel back from wherever he was. Funnily enough, since that Middlesbrough game I think I heard last night United have won only five out of 18 games or something since then.

“It’s been embarrassing, this manager [Erik ten Hag] now needs backing. Who’s going to help him do that? The club upstairs is still a bit of a mess. We don’t really know.”

Scholes’ impassioned rant continued as also took the opportunity to send a warning to one United defender ahead of the 2022/23 season.

“Do you know what, we go back to last year as well we thought Ronaldo’s coming in, Varane is coming in,” he added.

“You are thinking: ‘Yeah, here we go. Varane’s been disappointing.’

“I think he’s got away with it a little bit. A lot of injuries, hardly played a game.”
