Brazilian superstar Neymar is one of the best paid footballers in world football at Paris Saint-Germain, with a rather unique clause in his contract pocketing him a whopping bonus for unusual services rendered.
The Brazilian maverick penned a new five-year deal with PSG back in May, committing his long-term future to the Ligue 1 giants. On top of his astronomical wages that will see him pocket €50.6 million from next year, it appears that he also takes home an eye-watering £430,000-a-month bonus thanks to a very peculiar clause in his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
Spanish outlet El Mundo have leaked some of the finer details of his new contract. In order to earn just shy of half a million pounds each month, it is claimed that all Neymar has to do is be ‘courteous, punctual, friendly, and available to fans.’
The 29-year-old must also ‘have the courtesy to greet fans before and after each game’. He also must avoid making any negative comments on the tactics employed by the manager.
Neymar has been known to hit out at PSG’s management of him in the past, slamming the decision to throw him back in the team after a long spell on the sidelines for a Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund in February last year.
“It is hard after four games without playing. It was not my choice not to play, the club took this decision,” Neymar said.
“The club made this decision with the medical team. I wanted to play, I felt good. The club were afraid, and it is I who suffers from it.”
Perhaps it was those comments that saw PSG insert the new clause into his deal, ensuring there were no future issues.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Neymar has cost PSG more than €489m (£419m) since he was signed thanks to his gross annual wage of €43.4m (£37m), which is set to rise to €50.6m (£43m) from next year.
