Ronaldo return to Real Madrid ‘possible’ – Zidane

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane on Monday did not dismiss the chances of Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Real Madrid, admitting a comeback is “possible” for the striker.

When queried by Sky Italia if there is any truth to rumors that Ronaldo could reunite with Madrid, Zidane said:

“It’s possible, it’s possible.”

“We know Cristiano,” Zidane added.

“We know the person he is and everything he’s done at Real Madrid. But now he’s a Juventus player and you have to have respect both him and the club.”

When questioned further if he would like to coach Ronaldo again, Zidane said:

“I did what I had to do with Cristiano. Let’s see what will happen in the future.”

This latest development comes in the wake of reports in Spain having suggested Ronaldo is keen on returning to Real Madrid, where he rode the crest of a hugely successful period of nine years before leaving in 2018 for Juventus for 100 million euros.

The 36-year-old striker increased speculation last week with a cryptic post on social media, writing:

“It’s true the past belongs in museums (I should say!) but fortunately, football has memory… and so do I!”

Ronaldo had been signed by Juventus to lead them to Champions League success but his time there has not been as successful as was largely hoped. The team currently sit third in Serie A while an ignominous defeat by Porto last week meant they have again failed to make the quarterfinals stage after crashing out in the Champions League last 16 for a second consecutive year.
