Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson’s father, Jose Becker, found dead in Brazil after tragic drowning accident

Jose Becker, the father of Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, passed away on Wednesday after a tragic swimming accident.

The 57-year-old was reported missing at around 5pm local time after jumping into the dam on his property, near the town of Rincao do Inferno, and was found dead around midnight on Wednesday after tragically drowning in the lake near his holiday home in southern Brazil, local police said.

The tragic news was confirmed by a number of Brazil’s top clubs on Thursday morning, as Fluminense, Sao Paulo and Internacional posted their condolences and tributes to the Liverpool number one’s father.

Local authorities have confirmed the death is not being treated as being suspicious and no foul play is suspected.

“The Fluminense Football Club deeply regrets the death of Jose Agostinho Becker, father of goalkeepers Muriel and Alisson,” posted Fluminense on Twitter.

“We wish all friends and family all the strength.”

Internacional, where both goalkeepers began their professional careers, also shared their condolences to the stars.

“It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of José Agostinho Becker, father of our former goalkeepers Alisson and Muriel,” the Brazilian club Tweeted.

“Clube do Povo wishes strength to family and friends in this moment of so much pain.”

Jose Becker was a big inspiration for both of his sons, having played as a goalkeeper himself at amateur level in Brazil.

And speaking in 2018, the Liverpool No.1 revealed how he was influenced by his father: “I have a family of goalkeepers.

“My father played for his work team, my mother played handball in school, and my grandfather played in amateur football.

“And after all this, came my brother playing and then I started to like it, too.”

Alisson, 28, one of the world’s best goalkeepers, has been Liverpool’s number one for the past three years.

Liverpool’s next game comes again Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Sunday. The club have yet to comment on the news.
