History repeats itself for Mesut Ozil as Arsenal want to replace him with the star who replaced him at Real Madrid

Football often tosses up cute quirks and instances where history repeats itself, but this time it’s one that Mesut Ozil is not likely to appreciate.

Amid calls for his reinstatement into the Arsenal squad in January although their back-to-back wins over Chelsea and Brighton probably ruined that in all likelihood, there is still clearly room for a more creative presence in the team, as the Gunners’ run of poor form has shown.

It certainly isn’t an easy call for Mikel Arteta to make as he’ll be the brunt of widespread criticism, especially from fans, if Ozil makes his comeback into the team and performs well. And if the German doesn’t, the fans would still definitely not cut Arteta any slack. So at the end of the day it would actually be better for all involved if Ozil leaves the club, which means a new signing will be brought in instead.

With regard to this, the Metro have reported on the rumours beginning to circulate about Real Madrid star Isco moving to Arsenal on loan for the second half of the season, while also pointing to an interesting fact.

Ozil moved to Arsenal in the summer of 2013 when Isco was brought by Real Madrid to replace him, so there’s a big likelihood that he’ll replace the German playmaker again if he moves to the Emirates.

The buzz of the Isco link with the Gunners has been so heavy that there could be some serious interest from Arsenal in making this happen, but the Metro does confirm that he would rather stay in Spain with Sevilla so they will need to really roll out the red carpet to convince him to move to England instead.

Isco can be an absolute peach to watch on the pitch and would be an exciting signing for Arsenal, but it looks far more likely that he’ll replace Ozil rather than the two linking up in the same team.
