[VIDEO] Daniel Caligiuri: Even without fans, Revierderby still matters

Bundesliga will be resuming on Saturday and the biggest match will be Revierderby, the match between FC Schalke and Borussia Dortmund. The difference this time, they will play without fans.

But for Schalke midfielder Daniel Caligiuri, he is relieved that Bundesliga has returned.

“I am very excited. First of all because I am fit again. Secondly, because the league is about to restart and last but not least because it is a derby.

“We are excited simply because football is restarting and the fact that the first game back is a derby makes it all the more exciting. Like I said, without fans, it will be hard but there is nothing we can do about that. We will have to push ourselves on to win the match.”

The 32-year-old midfielder has been one of the longest servant at Schalke, appearing for 100 appearances. That is why he understand the importance of Revierderby and motivate himself to win the game.

“On the field, I am completely focused. Nothing else matters. Every player has their own means of motivating themselves for such an important game. The team can do that well. In training you can see that everyone is raring to go. I hope that we can show that on Saturday.”

Caligiuri has played 22 games in all competition, but a knee injury prevented him to appear more often.

“A couple of weeks ago, there were slight inconveniences in the knee, however, everything is ok now. I have been taking part in all the training drills with the team for weeks now. I am fully fit. I am at 100%. I am excited for the derby.”

“If we can take any positives away from this crisis it would be that for me, personally, I was able to get back on track. I feel great. I am back. I am fit. Now I am looking forward to the season to begin again.”
