Melaka United’s Uche Agba is positive

In a report in The Star newspaper, Melaka’s Nigerian striker Uche Agba has urged people not to be negative during this testing time, and instead to look at the positives. He says that efforts should be focused on the frontliners like doctors and nurses who are working round the clock to contain the coronavirus.

The 33-year-old, who has so far scored two goals in four Super League matches, said he has come across a lot of negative reports and wants the narrative changed.

“More people are recovering from the infection than the number of deaths, ” he said.

“We need to talk about the positive results we have seen over the weeks. Doctors and nurses should be encouraged, and those tested positive for Covid-19 should be given hope.”

“Good news keeps me hopeful that we can overcome the pandemic. I was not scared at all when it surfaced here, because I know God will protect everyone.

“My thoughts and prayers to everyone infected, and I hope we do not see more deaths. But, we must continue obeying the rules.”

Together with Haitian international playmaker Sony Norde, Agba has shown some tremendous attacking displays in the four matches so far where Melaka collected six points.

Melaka is currently in the relegation zone after the FAM deducted three points for the team’s failure to follow the financial plans they had submitted to settle players’ arrears.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) announced this in a statement in March after the decision was made at the ‘First Instance Body’ Club Licensing meeting chaired by Sheikh Mohd Nasir Sheikh Mohd Sharif via conference call.

FAM secretary-general Stuart Ramalingam said Melaka had agreed to the repayment scheme after settling half the arrears on Jan 31 but “they failed to adhere to the schedule”.

Agba said it was a blow to the team, but he’s remaining positive about that, too.

“I believe the management are doing their best in this situation. As for the players, we shall remain positive and keep winning games when the league resumes.

“Melaka are a team full of characters determined to bring success. We can still do better, and our aim is to be one of the top teams in the country, ” he said.
