Coronavirus stops AFC, emergency meeting in K.L.

While Johor Darul Ta’zim won a famous 2-1 victory in their spanking new stadium over Suwon Bluewings tonight, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) postponed five AFC Champions League 2020 matches which were originally scheduled for this week due to coronavirus threat. Emergency AFC meetings will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on March 7 and 8 to decide the next course of action.

South Korean and Iranian clubs are the most affected.

The postponed matches are Al Wahda FC (UAE) vs Esteghlal FC (Iran) and Persepolis FC (Iran) vs Al Taawoun FC (Saudi Arabia) on March 2 and Shabab Al Ahli FC (UAE) vs Shahr Khodro FC (Iran), Sepahan FC (Iran) vs Al Nassr FC (Saudi Arabia) and FC Seoul vs Chiangrai United, on March 3rd.

Apart from these five matches, a sixth fixture between Al Nassr FC and Sepahan scheduled for April 6 has also been postponed.

Meanwhile in Italy, Serie A is badly affected, and the English Premier League is also discussing potential options, given the worldwide spread of the disease.
