Erik ten Hag’s position at Manchester United has been a hot topic in football discussions for a long while already this season, especially since Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover was completed as the billionaire is reportedly an ardent fan of Zinedine Zidane.
The latest news in the grapevine is that the British billionaire will learn of Zinedine Zidane’s answer to joining the Old Trafford club in the “coming weeks”.
Ratcliffe and his Ineos group are all geared up to transform United inside out in an attempt to return the Red Devils to their former glory. The Ineos owner was hardly evasive and didn’y pull his punches when sharing his ambitions at the club, who’ve not won a league title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in the 2012/13 campaign.
The 71-year-old said: “This is just the start of our journey to return Manchester United to the pinnacle of English, European and world football, with world-class facilities for our supporters. The work to achieve these goals will accelerate from today”.
Although Ratcliffe has been keeping his true thoughts about his Dutch manager close to his chest, plans to restore United’s place to the pinnacle of the footballing world could start with the replacement of the former Ajax boss, as the Ten Hag’s future already having long been in jeopardy this season.
With United sitting sixth in the Premier League table, having also suffered a humiliating group stage knockout in the Champions League, it’s been a most humbling campaign for Ten Hag in his second season at Old Trafford.
According to French outlet Footmercato, his future at the club will be decided in the summer by Ratcliffe, who’s apparently targeting former Real Madrid boss Zidane, should the Dutchman make way at the end of the season.
