It has been alleged that Erling Haaland would prefer a move to La Liga rather than the Premier League, according to respected transfer journalist Gianluca DiMarzio.
Understandably, quite a number of clubs around Europe have the Borussia Dortmund scoring sensation in their crosshairs, including Premier League giants Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Spanish arch-rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid are also thought to be interested in the Norwegian and it now appears that the La Liga duo may be the frontrunners in the race to secure the signature of the Bundesliga wunderkind.
According to DiMarzio, Haaland isn’t at all eager to join the Premier League and would instead prefer to either remain in the Bundesliga or head to Spain.
Speaking to German outlet Wettfreunde (via talkSPORT), DiMarzio said: “He [Haaland] doesn’t like Premier League too much.”
“It is not in his dreams. It is not the perfect league at the moment.
“He prefers LaLiga – he likes LaLiga a lot. So, I think in his thoughts, LaLiga is the perfect tournament, now, to play in. Or Bundesliga, where he is currently playing.
“So it is not sure that he’ll leave in the summer. Borussia Dortmund thinks that for his career, another year there should be the right step.
“I don’t know what Mino Raiola thinks about it. I think Raiola wants to get him out of Borussia Dortmund because after two years there it is important for him to have another challenge.
“So I think he will try to find the right solution for him.”.
Chelsea had been linked with a move for the former RB Salzburg man last summer but finally opted to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club instead and DiMarzio has now revealed that Chelsea did make an approach but Haaland wasn’t interested in the move.
“Even last year when Chelsea tried to get him [Haaland] he didn’t push to go there because he thinks that Real Madrid or FC Barcelona are clubs that, in this moment, are the right step for him.”
Madrid have all this while been heavily linked with Kylian Mbappe and it remains to be seen whether they would be able to bring the two superstars to the Bernabeu.
