Richard Keys has taken a hearty swipe at “seriously boring” Everton despite important draws against Arsenal and Chelsea recently. Only four points separate the Toffees from the relegation zone and Sean Dyche’s side picked up two points against the Gunners and the Blues, both of whom are challenging for the Premier League title.
Mikel Arteta also saw fit to lash out at Dyche’s tactics following the 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium earlier this month, and Keys has seen fit to follow suit after only producing a handful of chances in both games.
Expressing his displeasure on his personal blog [23 December], Keys said: “A point at title-chasing Arsenal. And a point from the next game against title-chasing Chelsea – I’d say that was pretty good going.
“The trouble is Everton did it without taking a shot at goal at Arsenal and misfiring badly v Chelsea. Sean Dyche should get top marks for taking something from both games – but Everton are seriously boring.”
Of course, football fans want to be entertained, and after spending much of their money going to watch games, it is the least they deserve.
However, Keys fails to realize the repercussions of relegation from the Premier League. Imagine the Toffees moving into the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium as a Championship team.
Many fans cannot fathom what that would look like, given that the Merseyside club have never been relegated from the Premier League and have not faced the drop since 1951.
While Dyche’s team should have more than enough talent to rise up the table before the season ends, that is not the position they are in and two goalless draws at this point are precious.
Some will agree with Keys. The majority, however, will have some choice words for him.
