Mason Greenwood has agreed to personal terms with Marseille ahead of a transfer to the French club and is set to leave Manchester United this summer.
Greenwood is on the brink of setting a new Manchester United club record as his exit draws near this summer after Old Trafford chiefs decided his future was elsewhere. Having spent last season on loan at Getafe, the Spanish outfit had been tipped to secure him permanently.
However, a twist of the plot sees him now seemingly destined for French football with Ligue 1 team Marseille having reached a preliminary agreement with Greenwood for a move to the Stade Velodrome, according to The Athletic.
Having already agreed terms with Man United to sign the forward, Marseille will shell out an initial €27.6m (£23.3m) for Greenwood, which could rise to €31.6million (£26.7m) with add-ons. The move to Marseille had earlier reportedly been on the verge of falling through due to backlash from fans and city mayor Benoit Payan, according to The Mirror. Nonetheless, with personal terms now settled, it appears the transfer will go ahead, will some details to be ironed out.
The 22-year-old will now travel to France for a medical with his prospective employers and sign a contract. If the move proceeds as anticipated, it would see Man United shatter a post-Sir Alex Ferguson club record.
The Red Devils stand to make at least £23.3m profit on Greenwood, thanks to his academy graduate status.
