Eddie Howe under ‘serious pressure’ at Newcastle United with an unhappy board on his back

Eddie Howe is facing increasing pressure to turn things around at Newcastle United following the squad’s continued dip in form.

The Magpies went down another rung to 10th in the league table  following their 3-2 defeat to a Man City regalvanized by the second half presence of Kevin De Bruyne last weekend. With this defeat Newcastle have now lost six of their last seven league games, besides also having been dumped out of the Champions League in December.

As such, speculation has been rife regarding Eddie Howe’s future at the club, with the buzz in the media focusing on whether the Newcastle hierarchy could look to replace him, albeit that is not the view shared by the majority of the fanbase. Howe himself managed to alleviate some of that pressure by winning the Tyne-Wear derby against Sunderland.

However HITC Football insider Graeme Bailey – having spoken to Geordie Boot Boys about the mood behind the scenes at St James’ Park – believes that the pressure is still on Howe.

“I think Eddie Howe is under serious pressure,” he said.

“It’s my understanding that behind the scenes they’re not happy with the results, and you wouldn’t want them to be. At what point are you loyal to the manager out of pure loyalty.

“PIF are here to win the Premier League, and they will make moves if they think Eddie Howe has ran his race.”
